Activate & Install Your LOCI Asset Tracker

  • Updated

Setting up your new LOCI Asset Trackers is easy. Simply follow the steps below to activate, install and manage your devices.

Preparation

Order your LOCI Asset Trackers by heading to Settings > Device Management > Order a Battery-Powered Argus Asset Tracker on the Argus platform and fill out the form. From here the devices will be couriered to you and once delivered, you will be able to see these in your account under 'My Assets'.

Our devices will arrive with their batteries in and ready to go. However, to ensure that they ping from your preferred time of day, we recommend resetting the devices by removing the batteries and putting them back in.

To do this you'll need the following:

  • A LOCI Asset Tracker
  • A small Philips head screwdriver
  • A small plastic, wooden, rubber or non-metal prying tool (optional)

Activating & Fitting Your Devices

Step 1: Unscrew the six screws on the back cover of your LOCI Asset Tracker device.

Step 2: Remove the batteries with a non-metal prying tool (if you have one) or your fingers. Keep them out for 10 seconds and put them back in.

A red light will flash on the back of the green circuit board for a few minutes to signify that the batteries are working and that the device is connecting to the network.

Please Note: Asset Trackers ping 3x per day with 8-hour intervals e.g. if you input the batteries at 9:04am they will ping at 5:04pm, 1:04am, and 9:04am.

Step 3: Replace the back cover and screw it on tightly with the six screws you removed in step 1 to ensure IP67 waterproof protection.

Step 4: Now that the device is activated, it's time to install.

Asset Trackers can be mounted to an asset using screws, cable ties, industrial adhesives, or super-strength double-sided tape. When choosing a mounting point, you have two competing goals:

  • To minimise the chances of the device being accidentally crushed, dislodged or discovered.
  • To maximise the GPS network signal.

Choose a location that will not result in elevated temperatures. For instance, mounting the Asset Tracker in direct sunlight on the dash of an unventilated cabin may overheat the batteries, leading to an abnormally short service life.

Please Note: Before installation, please take note of what Vehicle ID (VID) number goes on which asset for identification on the Argus platform.

Managing Your Devices

Now that your devices are set up and installed into your assets, you can identify them at any time by heading to My Assets > Profile

In an asset profile, you can rename your devices, add them to a group, or enter any other details you require.

If you wish to create a geofence for these devices, head to the Geofence section and follow this guide.

Replacing Batteries

All batteries will need replacing at some stage and the longevity of your asset tracker batteries will depend on how often your device 'pings' and the heat conditions the battery has encountered.

Replacement batteries for your asset tracker can be purchased from your local battery supplier (think places like Mitre 10, The Warehouse, and similar stores). For more information on what batteries your Asset Tracker requires, please visit our How to Replace the Batteries in Your Argus Asset Tracker article.
